Aim

In this unit, learners will learn how to read and obtain information of varying length and detail from different sources and to use resources to support understanding.

Unit Learning Outcomes

Be able to obtain and use information from a range of sources.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1
    Use organisational features to locate information.

    LO1: Sources should be varied, written for different purposes and audiences, and on a range of topics, not all of which will be familiar to the learner. Learners should be able to summarise a 5-paragraph text into a single paragraph. Specialist vocabulary might relate to a specific job role, hobby or set of instructions for a task.

    Compare and evaluate information from different sources in order to select information for own use.

    Summarise information from longer documents.
  • 1.4
    Recognise the meaning of specialist or technical vocabulary.

    Use knowledge of vocabulary to aid understanding.

    Use different strategies to obtain information, including skimming scanning and detailed reading.
