• maintenance of pipe cutter wheels, replace if blunt
• maintenance of hacksaw blades
• storage of gas canisters
• care with blow lamps
• keeping flux contained

Know how each is used in plumbing marking out for pipework and fittings

• marking out pipe runs using a tape measure 
• use of marker pen or pencil
• levelling sanitary fittings
• levelling sinks

• 3.1
  Follow instructions to measure and mark out different components using
  a) tape measure
  b) spirit level
  c) marking pen or pencil.
  

Be ble to estimate material requirements for a given installation.

Demonstrate marking out

• marking out pipe lengths
• check drainage and pipe diameters
• measure areas
• record findings on drawings

Assessment Criteria

• 4.1
  Measure and record details of length, diameter and area.
  
• 4.2
  Record length of pipework, number and type of fittings for given pipework assemblies

Be able to work safely.

Plumbing safety

• using sharp tools and cutters
• be aware of burrs on pipework
• care with cutting
• wearing PPE where required

  Follow instructions and requirements in line with current health and safety regulations when using hand tools and equipment.
