Assessment Guidance

Learners should be working with and closely supervised by a suitably qualified and experienced adult when addressing Learning Outcome 2. They should be following instructions at all times and responsible for completing only aspects of monitoring and caring for the health and well-being of animals.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    List key signs of health in a chosen animal species.

  • 1.2

    List possible signs of ill health or stress in a chosen animal species.

  • 1.3

    Give examples of ways in which those caring for animals can help to keep them healthy.

  • 1.4

    Give reasons why it is important to follow health, safety and hygiene rules when monitoring and caring for the health and well-being of an animal.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Follow key health, safety and hygiene rules when assisting with monitoring and caring for the health and well-being of an animal.

  • 2.2

    Follow instructions to complete given tasks which will contribute to monitoring and maintaining the health and well-being of a chosen animal.

  • 2.3

    Check the physical condition, behaviour, general health and well-being of a chosen animal against a given checklist.

  • 2.4

    Check the environment or accommodation in which a chosen animal is being kept.

  • 2.5

    Report findings from checks to an appropriate person.
