    This qualification is intended to improve the understanding and skills of those supporting the development of children’s speech, language and communication, including teachers and teaching assistants who have had little or no formal training in this area.

    The qualification will help learners to develop an understanding of speech, language and communication development within the context of a child’s overall development. They will learn why it is important to do this during a child’s early years and how to apply a range of support strategies, appropriate to the children in their own setting.

    What is the purpose of this qualification?

    To improve the understanding and skills of those supporting the development of children’s speech, language and communication, including teachers and teaching assistants who have had little or no formal training in this area.


    What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?

    Learners will develop an understanding of speech, language and communication development within the context of a child's overall development and the importance of supporting this area of development during a child's early years. They will also learn how to apply a range of support strategies, appropriate to the children in their own setting.
