Qualification Summary
The Diploma provides learners with a wide choice of units to support progression into Social Sciences degree programmes. The mandatory group ensures that learners have a good understanding of themes relevant to Social Sciences including, introduction to criminology, psychology and sociology. Learners can select from a range of optional units linked to Social Sciences, with some variety of choice to include units which may be of specific interest if the learner has an interest in different aspects of psychology, behaviour, child development, criminal behaviour, culture and identity, government policy linked to social welfare issues and social policy, human rights, mental health and illness, the impact of poverty and social exclusion and other social issues related to health, the family and the media. Learners may also wish to study how the brain works. In addition to the graded units, learners must choose from a selection of mandatory and optional ungraded units to support underpinning skills both for work within the sector or for further academic study.
