Approved Internal Quality Assurer (AIQA) Status
What is this?
AIQA status enables an Internal Quality Assurer within a recognised centre to authorise the Recommendation for the Award of Credit (RAC) form issued by Gateway Qualifications, without the need for external quality assurance.
Benefits to the organisation
- Direct claims status
- Prompt certification
- No extra costs for additional external quality assurance visits
- Acknowledgement of robust internal quality systems.
Benefits to the individual undertaking and achieving AIQA status
- Nationally accredited training and certification
- Continuous professional development (CPD)
- Evidence of internal quality assurance competence.
Approved Internal Quality Assurer (AIQA) status relates to a named individual in a particular recognised centre and is not in any way transferable, either between verifiers or between centres.
Is AIQA status mandatory?
AIQA status is in many cases very beneficial but is not mandatory. Without AIQA status approval an Internal Quality Assurer can internally verify learners’ work but will not be able to sign off the Recommendation for the Award of Credit (RAC) form issued by Gateway Qualifications and the centre will require additional external quality assurance visits.
How do I get AIQA status?
AIQA status is approved on completion of the appropriate training and evidence of good practice, or on production of appropriate existing qualifications and evidence of experience and practice.
There are, therefore, various routes to achieving AIQA status including:
- Successful completion of the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (which includes a theory and a practice unit).
- If you have current experience and already hold an existing relevant internal quality assurance qualification, AIQA status may be achieved through endorsement.
