Apprenticeship Standard: Senior Healthcare Support Worker
The Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard is designed for apprentices working in roles where they carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner.
Job roles may be in a range of services e.g. hospital, community, health or day case unit, birth centre or midwifery led unit, someone’s home, operating theatre, nursing or care home, assessment centre, hospice, school, prison, GP surgery, charity or voluntary organisation; working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.

Mandated qualification requirements
The Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard requires achievement of the following qualification for all apprentices:
Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support
This qualification is suitable for the following options within the Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard:
- Adult Nursing Support
- Mental Health Support
- Allied Health Profession – Therapy Support
Complementary additional support qualifications
The following qualifications may be used to support apprentices to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
English and Maths support
All apprentices must also achieve level 1 English and maths and take the test for level 2 prior to taking their EPA. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.
